What We Did

When Hurricane Katrina hit in August of 2005, the expansive flood damage was so extensive many buildings had to be demolished. Included in those structures was Torah Academy Elementary School for Orthodox Jews. The building stood empty and desolate for years after the hurricane, rendered unsafe and toxic. After finally being demolished, the site was ready for something new.

Our team went to work, giving careful consideration to Orthodox Judaic observations. While keeping in mind religious beliefs, we incorporated the latest technology throughout the building. The new school is comprised of five elementary education classrooms, and two daycare rooms. Special consideration was paid to maximize natural light throughout the classrooms, factoring lighting each classroom and its shelf space. A large multipurpose room was created to provide maximum flexibility during lunch, recess and special events. Our team brought in brighter interior colors, creating a cheerful and friendly space for students. We’re proud to have been a part in this rebuild project, as we believe our schools are the building block of our beloved community.
